The
QPod™ concept
is new and considered a revolutionary step forward in the storage
and transportation of fresh foods and other perishable products.
It is a breakthrough, enabling increasing demand for the industry's
trend towards unitising perishable cargoes.
QPods™ are palletised mini containers, which
have base units similar to cargo transport pallets ('pallets')
in size and shape. But while a pallet is not fitted with
a cargo container QPods™ are!
QPods™ have been designed to store food and other perishables
in precisely controlled microenvironments so that they keep fresher
for longer. This is achieved by the combination of new and traditional
technologies, which enables the QPod™ to keep its cargo sealed
in and protected in its environment while being moved through the
distribution logistics chain. QPods™ will help satisfy a
growing global demand for fresh produce and other perishable value-added
goods. The solution is designed to provide distinct advantages
over other systems in terms of transport and market flexibility
and cargo security.
Mixed cargo, including frozen, chilled and general cargo (non-temperature
controlled) can be transported simultaneously on or within the
same vehicle. QPods™ also
overcome problems with temperature change at cross docking points
in the logistics chain, which can lead to a reduction in storage
life of perishable cargo. There are no breaks in the cool chain
due to the product never leaving the QPod™ from time of packaging
to final market destination. The QPod™ moves through the
distribution chain just like a normal palletised load.
Extension of storage life is possible because the QPod™ environments
can be established faster and can be precisely controlled right
to the point of sale if necessary.
